The Great British Bake Off and their eye-catching kitchen.

The Recipe…..

Ryan Miller, Designer

Let’s delve into The Great British Bake Off and for once it’s not the showstopper we are talking about.  The Bake Off first aired in 2010 and it has been a staple of many people’s televisions diet since.  Over the years there has been many changes, from presenters to bakers but one thing has always remained the same.  The kitchen.  A workstation that over the years has helped produce many a mouth-watering bake, all from a run of units; or is it as simple as that?

The Ingredients…..

The use of a single run of units hasn’t been used due to lack of space, there is more to it than that. The designer has put functionality and practicality at the forefront and produced one of the most iconic kitchens on our screens.  If you tune in for the first time or as a ritual, our eyes will always be drawn to the kitchens the bakers are using.  The contemporary shaker doors have been finished in the most joyful pastel colours of blue, green, and purple. The use of these colours alongside the country style door demonstrates bringing the old into the new. The rustic old-style kitchen may be used to evoke memories of the viewers cooking in their Grandparent’s kitchen growing up. The vibrant colours used don’t overpower the space as they seamless contrast with the vast lengths of solid wooden worktops that not only help to finish the overall appearance but brings practicality to the plate.  The worktop has so much more to offer than looks. Due to their size the bakers use them to their fullest. From prep to plate every inch can be used to benefit the overall bake, allowing the process to flow without any clutter.

The Bake…..

This country kitchen hasn’t been left without the modern touch, and when you look past the kitchen’s aesthetic you will be grasped at what the bakers have at their disposal.  Some of the market’s most practical appliances have become the most requested in every new kitchen design.  Two of these that won’t come at a shock are the Neff Hide & Slide oven and the Quooker tap.  Due to its sliding door, the Neff oven allows users to gain more access into the oven and reduces the chances of injury as well as providing a space saving solution.  Another ingredient found in the Bake Off kitchen is the Quooker tap.  The multi-function tap provides instant boiling water, still water, sparkling and regular hot and cold.  The Quooker tap brings convenience, sustainability, and efficiency to the table.

Ready Steady Bake…..

Now think about it… when you mention The Bake Off why do you always mention the Slide & Hide or the Quooker tap? It is because although you are looking to be entertained you are always thinking about functionality and what could benefit you in the everyday use of your own kitchen? The product placement in this show is one of the best examples demonstrating how kitchens can be much more than “just a kitchen”, so when planning your new kitchen please don’t forget to think about how you can get the most out of .

Without losing the overall aesthetic.

Make your kitchen a showstopper.
